About Me

I am a 3rd year student of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

Born in the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, India, I was brought up in the city of Lucknow. Brought-up in a "medical" family of doctors, my interest grew in Engineering. I had special interests in Electrical and Electronics right from the childhood.

I did my schooling from St. John Bosco College, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow and completed my 10+2 level course from Lucknow Christian Intercollege.

Projects Undertaken at IIT Kanpur

Till date (As in January 2001), I have quite a few projects under my name. These projects cover a very wide area in Engineering - from Electronics to Electrical to Signal Processing to Mechanical to Computer to Robotics.

The first project that I did in the institute, iTransliterator, was under Dr. T.V. Prabhakar, Professor, CSE Department. The idea of the project was to transliterate from Roman to Devanagari script under standard fonts for the Devanagari script for the use on internet. The application happens to be a part of the Project Gita, one of the major projects under work at the institute. The executable and source code can be downloaded from one of the mirrors listed at the end. The font used for Devanagari script is DV-TTYogesh.

In continuation of the first one, this project FoCo happens to be an extension to it. FoCo is acronym for FOnt COnverter. This application is meant to convert any document, in Devanagari script, from one font to another in the HTML format. Currently, it is available only for Windows 98/NT/2000 and it can be used to inter-convert between the following fonts(in alphabetical order):

Agra	Ajay	Aman
Ankit	Arjun	AS-TTDurga
Bhaskar	DV-TTYogesh	Hemant
Jagran	Kanika	Kruti Dev
Marathi	Nepali Vijay	Sanskrit 98
Susha	Vijay	XDvng

This project entitled Boot Polish is currently under progress and being supervised by Dr. S.G. Dhande, Dean, Research and Development. This project, being designed using extenstions in Auto-CAD using Auto-LISP and C++, aims at the shoe industry. The idea is to develop an application to help in designing / redesigning of shoes. The input is in the form of points of data cloud of scanned image of a shoe last and the final output is the flat pattern design of the rendered shoe.
Sorry, no source or executable is available at this time.

In yet another project, this time in the area of Speech Recognition, I am currently working under Dr. S. Umesh, Professor, Dept. of Electrical Engineering. The project is basically an idea which came to my mind and I decided to take this up as a project so that I can at least complete a major part of it. The basic idea of the project is to develop an application, in software or hardware, which would be able to convert the voice of one person into that of other. I am also working on the Multi-Modal Speech Synthesis modules to enhance the project. At present, I have not christened it.

In the Open Software Contest at TechKriti 1999, I designed Logic Simulator to simulate logic circuits and build them given any logic expression.
Sorry, no source or executable is available at this time.

I designed a Robot which could play carrom for the contest Robo Carromines, also a part of TechKriti, 2000.

Also in Robotics, I worked to design the robots for the MIROSOT - MIcro RObot SOccer Tournament, an international competition where minitature robots compete against one another other in the game of Soccer. The competition allows three robots of maximum size 2.5"x2.5"x2.5" in a team to play against the other with the restriction that once the game starts, there shall be no human intervention in the game except during the case of time-outs, hence the robots are computer controlled.

Laboratory Simulation of Bottling Unit, done as the part of course Introduction to Manufacturing Processes, this project showed in laboratory the method of bottling as done at the industrial level. This project used continuous-to-discrete motion conversion.

Currently, I am working on the project Logician, a sofware the purpose of which is to minimize a logic circuit given in form of a circuit diagram OR logic expression OR MIN-Term form OR MAX-Term form.

Contributions to the above Projects

Let me not forget those who worked and/or currently working with me in the above projects. I give thanks from the bottom of my heart who helped me in completing the above projects.

K. Anand Sudhakar, also my wingmate, worked with me on Logic Simulator.
Anupam Garg, also happens to be my room-mate and section-mate (in first year), helped me in FoCo and is currently working with me on Boot Polish.
Ashutosh Kumar, my neighbour on campus right from the first year, helped me in FoCo and we are currently working on Boot Polish.
Mayank Shivam, from the same city as I am, worked with me in laboratory simulation of Bottling Unit and we have partnered to work on the project in the areas of SSP under Dr. S. Umesh.
Kartikeya Mehrotra, Anuj Rawat, Apoorva Jindal and Kumar Saurabh, who worked in the successful completion of laboratory simulation of Bottling Unit.
